Drum for dipping into aq. solns. - has sets of polyethylene perforated units welded together to have polygonal end view but fixed to polypropylene end discs e.g. by screws
Revolving immersion drum is made of a non-conducting synthetic material and is used to treat powdered materials with aqueous solution either chemically or electolytically. The drum consists basically of two parallel ends and a perforated cylinder fixed between them but having pref. a polygonal end section; the cylinder is actually made up of a number of adjacent lngitudinal rectangular and pref. flat perforated sheets laid together to form the polygonal end view; between them and at the corners of the polygon they have reinforcing rods; at least one of the sheets is a removeable cover. The facing sheets of the drum are joined together into one homogeneous unit by a heated butt-welding process; they are fixed on the end plates by other means than that welding operation by e.g, screws. The drum ends and facing sheets are pref. made of different materials e.g, high hol. wt. polyethylene and polypropylene. ADVANTAGE - The prod. is highly resistant to mechanical or thermal factors in service. Cuts out use of heated butt-welding polyethylene. The prod. saves about half the cost of the welding process and its assembly by e.g, screws saves time and is safe.
