The differential pinion shaft (14) is supported in a housing (10) by two axially displaced bearings (16, 18). A tensioning nut (34), screwed onto the shaft, pre-loads the bearings. The hub (38) of a shaft coupling flange (36) is supported axially and radially sealed against a tensioned pressure ring (46), which itself seats against the tensioning nut. A securing nut (52) holds the hub on a splined portion (40) of the shaft against the pressure ring. A shaft seal (53) seals the flange hub w.r.t. the housing. USE/ADVANTAGE - Shaft seal can be replaced without releasing the bearing pre-load.
