A ferroelectric liquid crystal polymer is composed of recurrent units having the formula (I), in which Y is H, CH3, F; R1 is an at least double chiral residue such as (a); a is comprised between 2 and 20, preferably between 6 and 12; b, c, d, e and f are 0 or 1; A?1, A2, A3? are for example 1,4-phenylene, cyclohexylene or pyrimidin-2,5-diyl; M2, M3 are CO-O, O-CO, CO-S, S-CO, CH?2?-O, O-CH2; and M?1? is 0, the compounds (b), (c). These liquid crystal polymers have short switching times, a good mechanical resistance and can be produced by radical polymerization.
