The method groups together several parallel drive wheels into a single packet. A series of regions lying one behind the other in the packet and lying between two adjacent tooth heads is ground at least to the depth of the low-wear layer to be applied, measured from the wheel contours to be reestablished. All series of regions around the periphery of the packet are ground in this way. The packet is dismantled and the wheels are flat ground to the required thickness. The packet is reassembled into a packet with a series of wheel bodies having the same thickness between end discs and with the inclusion of spacers. New wear layers are then welded into place. ADVANTAGE - Renewed wheels have same wear-resistance as brand new ones.
