The combustion chamber (1) of a steam boiler is provided with a fluidised bed (6) which is supported on a floor (2) which is fitted with nozzles. An air chamber (3), which supplies air to the nozzle is installed under the nozzle floor (2). An ash removal pipe (12) extends from the fluidised bed through the air chamber (3) to the ash cooler (7). The air chamber (3) has openings in its floor for nozzles (9) which communicate with the ash cooler (7) and the ash removal pipe (12) terminates above the floor of the ash cooler (7).
