An inductive identification system for contactless identification and/or marking of objects contains a read or read/write head, a code carrier, a transmission and reception coil system (1) and an evaluation unit. The head is activated by pulses from the transmission system passing via the code carrier on an object. The transmission coil (2,3) is controlled by electronic switches (6,7) for successive short but equal time intervals and the current direction in the transmission coil is alternately reversed to generate equal but opposite polarity pulses. ADVANTAGE - Allows greater separation between read/write head and code carrier.
