Prodn. of improved purity 4,4'-bis-(4-aminophenoxy) -diphenylsulphone (BAPDS) by reaching 4-aminophenol (AP) with an alkali hydroxide (AH) to give an alkaliphenolate which is then reacted with a 4,4'-dihalodiphenylsulphone (DHDS) in an organic solvent at 120-200 deg.C to give a prod. which is pptd. with the aid of a pptn. agent are that (i) 1.0-1.0 (pref. 1.0-1.05) moles of AH are used per mol. of AP; (ii) 2.005-2.05 (2.01-2.04) moles of AP are used per mol. of DHDS; and (iii) the organic solvent is a dialkylamide, pref. N-Me-pyrrolidone. -
