5-Trifluoro-1,3-diaminobenzenes of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I), one of X, Y = H, the other = OR or NHR; and R = 2-3C hydroxyalkyl, 2,3-dihydroxypropyl, 2-3C methoxyalkyl, tetrahydrofurylmethyl, or tetrahydropyrylmethyl. Specifically claimed cpds. are e.g. 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)oxyTFMDAB; 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)oxy TFMDAB; 4-(2-tetrahydropyrylmethyl)oxy TFMDAB; 4-(2-tetrahydrofurylmethyl)oxy TFMDAB; and 4-(2-hydroxypropyl)amino TFMDAB. The acronym TFMDAB = 5-trifluoromethyl-1,3-diaminobenzene. -
