Acrolein (I) is produced by isomerisation of propargyl alcohol (II) in the gas phase at 300-550 deg C and 0.01-50 bar, on heterogeneous catalysts contg alkaline-reacting metal ions (III). Pref (III) contain ions of Li, K, Na, Cs and/or Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba; pref (III) are mol sieves or structurally related Al phosphates contg the above ions, supporting materials doped with the ions, or alkaline earth oxides.
