Electrical capillary discharge device - has capillary providing inversion of electronic condition of ions for light amplification in UV and soft X=ray

The discharge device provides vacuum UV and soft x-ray radiation. The discharge circuit together with the length and dia. of the capillary ensure that the max. number of ions with a high ionisation level are generated for times which are many times longer than the mean lifetime of the electrons upon transition to a lower energy level. The capillary material is doped with heavy atoms which vaporise in response to the discharge, providing radiation cooling for obtaining a lower plasma temp. USE - Providing rapid sequence of light flashes for illuminating objects.
