The rail hook has a shaft at the one end of which are means for connecting with the operating mechanism of the tanker rail wagon valve. At its other end, the shaft has a hook claw (2, 3) securing laterally behind the rail on which the wagon stands, and a security device which, when a max. limit tractive load of the rail hook is exceeded, releases the operating mechanism of the wagon valve. On the hook shaft (1) is at least one support surface (10) which locates on the side surface (12) of the rail furthest away from the hook claw (2, 3). Thus surface is arranged in the longitudinal direction of the rail (4) spaced from the longitudinal axis of the hook shaft (1). USE/ADVANTAGE - For railway tanker wagons, to ensure that even if the wagon is pushed during loading and discharge operations it does not move along the track, and that in such an event the wagon valve operating mechanism is released.
