The coil spring etc. end former consists of a roll table to take the spring together with a three-dimensional tong gripper plus a coiler coaxial to the centre axis of the spring and using one radially adjustable and one fixed segment for the coiling operation. The moving segment is assisted by fixed and free jaws to grip the end of the wire forming the spring. During the power rotation of the coiler the moving segment moves towards the fixed segment. The coiler (3) should be rotated by a hollow shaft (12) rigidly joined to the endface (13) of the drum (14) holding the coiler (3). The segments (6,7) and adjusters engage and are thus held by a plate (15) releasably fixed to the drum and are led through the plate to the far side remote from the drum. In the operating position the adjusters and access areas are on the plate side facing the drum (14) and thus enclosed by this, the radial movement of the segments (6,7) produced by a work cylinder (16) arranged between a plate arm (17) and arm (18) on the radially adjustable segment (7) so the cylinder piston rod adjusts the segment in a linear guide (20). The free jaw (8) on segment (7) swivels on the fixed jaw (9) and is moved off a second cylinder (23) between the two jaws on the side remote from the cylinder. Pressure lines to the cylinders (15,23) are run through the shaft (12) out of the drum and are supplied by feeder rotating on the shaft (12). USE/ADVANTAGE - Metal forming, spring production.
