The bevels on the edge of the glass plate (2) are circumferentially ground in the gap (5) between two opposed grinding wheels (1). The wheels are traversed together along the edge of the glass plate. The periphery of the wheels is radiused and the two axes (4) are inclined at an adjustable skew angle to the traverse movement so that the sides of the bevel section produced are hyperbolic segments. Grinding is done with diamond impregnated wheels in the presence of a coolant. USE/ADVANTAGE - Glass plate can be bevelled at high traverse rates without the occurrence of hairline cracks.
