RIM of polyurethane polyurea mould-lining film - with film then being vacuum formed into mould which is used to produce film-lined mouldings of complex shape

Prodn. is claimed of quasi-thermoplastic internal film linings of max. thickness 1mm which can be vacuum deep drawn into a mould which is subsequently to be used for producing plastics mouldings covered with the film. The novelty is that the film prodn. can be effected by reaction injection moulding (RIM) if a specified polyisocyanate-polyaddn. compsn. is subjected to RIM in a closed plate mould of max. height 1mm. The specified polyaddn. compsn. has NCO value 60-140, is of density at least 0.6 g/cm3 and contains the following components (a) and (b) together with components (c), (d) and/or (e), with the proviso that the total amt. of (c) and/or (d) is at least 5 wt.% based on the wt. of (b). Component (a) is a polyisocyanate (b) is a cpd. of mol.wt. 1800-12,000 with a statistical mean of at least 2.5 NCO-reactive gps. (c) is a diamine of mol.wt. 108-400 with 2 primary and/or sec. aromatic-bonded amino gps. (d) is a (cyclo)alkane-polyol or -polyamine of mol.wt. 60-1799 opt. contg. ether gps. (e) comprises additives etc. conventionally used in polyurethane mouldings. -
