Drawing wire contg. above 0.35% C consists of applying a sepn. layer to the wire surface having a surface weight of 1-309/m2. During drawing, the wire surface develops a roughness having a support surface of max. 30% to a depth of 0.5 microns. When the support surface of the wire exceeds 30% it is subjected to a further coating process. ADVANTAGE - No intermediate heat treatment or cooling is required as the ageing of the wire during elongation is considerably reduced.
