In a continuous press, for the production of chipboard, hardboard, plywood etc., where the pressure is applied by flexible endless steel bands which carry the load through the press, the bands are guided along the longitudinal axis of the press. They pass over drive rollers and guide rollers round over the press top/bottom platen; with an adjustable press daylight, they are supported by rollers and bearings on both platens. The steel bands on the top/bottom platens are adjusted about the longitudinal axis of the press by turning the top platen horizontally, together with its drive and guide rollers; they are turned about a vertical axis at the centre of the press; shortly before this the short-stroke pressure cylinders in the high pressure area are released and remain so until the platen has been turned. ADVANTAGES - The method enables the top platen to be adjusted precisely in alignment with the bottom - platen in reference to their longitudinal axes., and to do this during production without straining the steel band.
