Paper roll singling from a wide blank involves singling appropriate widths for cutting into strips for coiling onto the pre cut core sleeve, the roll faces bearing on one another to give a bar of rolls on completion. The bar of rolls (1) should be fed axially to a singler once coiled, and there the second roll from front () is arrested and the frontmost roll (1') wrapped by a grab sling (3) which applies increasing axial tensile force at an angle to the axial direction to break the roll endfaces apart so the first roll (1') can be taken off by belt.
