In order to produce pictures, etc. in a contrasting colour on the surface of waffles, the waffles (10) are, during or after the baking process, brought briefly into contact with a stamp bearing the required image in high relief and whose surface temperature is about 20 to 80 degrees C above the baking temperature. The waffles (10) may be first baked and then transferred to a station where their outlines are cut out, breaking lines are marked and the required surface image applied. The colour contrast is produced by the darkening of the sugar in the waffles due to the areas of increased heat. USE/ADVANTAGE - This invention is used for producing written messages, pictures or impressed patterns on the surface of sugar-containing waffles, especially on folded or unfolded fan waffles. The required effect is produced economically and in a short time period, adn without the use of any additional colouring materials, etc..
