The damped mounting has the inner mounting sleeve (12) linked to the outer mounting sleeve (16) by elastic material and incorporating two hydraulic chambers (38, 40) connected by a flow restriction (42). The fluid is electrorheologic and the flow restriction is bounded by electrodes to vary the viscosity of the fluid. The fluid viscosity is adjusted to provide the optimum damping for the particular vibration frequency. It enables the mounting to cater for idling speed as well as running speed.
