The IC engine has two pairs of opposed piston-cylinder arrangements, and associated crank shafts, which are revolvably connected via toothed gears. Each arrangement (5-8) acts on an individual crank shaft (17-20). The cranks (25-28) of all shafts form a mirror-fashion configuration relative to a longitudinal centre axis (1) extending between the pairs (2,3) of piston-cylinder : arrangements, and to a transverse central axis (4), at right angles to the first.
