Cpds. of formula (I) are claimed R1 = H, 1-8C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or Ph; R2 = 1-8C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or Ph; R3 = 1-18C alkyl, O- or S-interrupted 2-18C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl or Ph-(1-40C alkyl). (I) are produced by Claisen condensn. of esters of formula (II) in the presence of a base. Pref. R1 = H or 1-4C alkyl and R2 = 1-4C alkyl; reaction is carried out in a solvent i.e. aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, ether- or polar aprotic-solvent. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for stabilising organic material against oxidative, thermal and/or light-induced degradation, esp. natural, semi-synthetic or synthetic polymers or functional liqs., esp. thermoplastic polymers or elastomers, lubricants or hydraulic fluids (claimed); also claimed is (a) a process for stabilising materials by addn. or application of (I) as stabilisers, esp. to thermoplastics, elastomers or functional fluids, esp. lubricants, and (b) stabilised compsns. contg. materials and cpd(s).
