Card reader with magnetic head for magnetic cards - has contact head for IC cards and optical head for optical cards

The card reader has a housing with an input slot connected to a transport channel with a card drive arrangement (12a, 12b), a magnetic head (13) for reading magnetic cards and a contact head (15) for reading IC cards. An optical head (14) is arranged along the same transport channel (6) for reading optical cards. The housing has a lower part and a top linked via a hinge to enable it to be opened. Each housing part contains a wall of the transport channel which iss therefore open for access when the housing is open. USE/ADVANTAGE - For reading magnetic, IC or mixed cards. The design achieves an extended range of applications of the card reader.
