Flood-water seal for e.g. doors or windows - consists of fabric-reinforced soft PVC sheet fitted with edge chambers which are placed into guides and inflated when flood danger arises
Flood-water seal for e.g. doors or windows - consists of fabric-reinforced soft PVC sheet fitted with edge chambers which are placed into guides and inflated when flood danger arises
A seal for openings, e.g. doors and windows in particular in buildings to prevent ingress of floods uses fabric-reinforced unplasticised PVC sheeting which is only activated when risk of flooding arises. The sheet is set into guides arranged round the opening and is made to act as seal by pumping up chambers which are in the sheeting by the guides. Pref. the guides (2) are box-section hollow components which are placed inside the opening (3) in a building and which have a longitudinal slot in the inner side. The seal against flood-water is normally kept rolled up but when the danger of flood arises it is unrolled and inserted through the slot. Air holders (4) are located in the sheeting where it it inserted into the guides (2). When the sheeting has been unrolled these holders (4) are inflated. The action can be made automatic by having a moisture sensor beneath the opening and causing this to energise the inflation process. When installed on the ground floor of a building the product can replace rolling shutters. ADVANTAGE - The invention prevents any damage from occurring by flood entry through doors and windows (as conventional seals are only effective against air draughts).
