Chevrel phase powders are compounds of lead, molybdenum and sulphur (PbMo6S8). Additives composed of a metal, a mixture of several metals and/or a metal alloy, all of which have a low melting point less than the heat-treatment temperature of Chevrel phase powders or chemical transport agents, are introduced into said powders. The introduction may also be effected by coating Chevrel phase powders by a physical or chemical process. The wires obtained using this process are capable of generating powerful magnetic fields.
