The invention relates to an antigenic glycoprotein gp80 characterised by the following properties: - it has a molecular weight MW close to 80 kDa; - it is recognized by polyclonal antibodies directed against the glycoprotein gp300; - it comprises, combined in the form of a dimer, two entities of the envelope transmembrane glycoprotein gp36, encoded by the genome of a HIV-2 type human retrovirus, which is capable of causing LAS or AIDS in man, or - any glycoprotein with a molecular weight of the same order of magnitude, which is capable of forming an antigen-antibody type immunological complex with antibodies directed against the said gp80. The invention also relates to antibodies directed against this glycoprotein. It also relates to its application to diagnosis and to vaccination.
