The present invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst precursor containing copper, aluminum and zinc. This precursor is formed by mixing two ternary precursors at different stages. of their manufacture, these two ternary precursors differing from each other by their metallic stoichiometry (atomic ratios between Cu, Zn and Al), by their crystallographic structure and by their elementary morphology. / P P The catalyst obtained from this precursor can be used in particular for the synthesis of methanol.
