The invention relates to a method for assisting the directing of means ET for carrying loads of ore of different categories to unloading points PD corresponding to these categories. According to the invention, for each carriage means and for each trip the following steps are carried out, namely: - the ore is loaded onto the carriage means; - this ore is sorted ST; - in response to this sorting a data item representing the category of the carried ore is transmitted to the carriage means and stored, and this category is indicated to the driver so that he can drive to the corresponding unloading point; - to each unloading point is sent BD information representing a data item defining the category of ore which this point can accept; - as the carriage means approaches an unloading point, this information is detected and the data item giving the carried category is compared with the data item giving the acceptable category; - the result of this comparison is indicated to the driver in order to ensure that on each occasion the carried ore is unloaded at the correct unloading point.
