The invention relates to a method and a device for using an apparatus D for centring spectacle lenses and a machine S for grinding the edges of the spectacle lenses for the identification of the spectacles with the aid of acquired data. The grinding of the spectacle lenses and the fitting of the spectacle frames with the lenses of a spectacles wearer should thus be facilitated. For this purpose, the method provides for data of a personal nature relating to the spectacles wearer, as well as data relating to the shape of the spectacles, to be stored in memory on a data medium (support) and for the latter to be connected, in a captive manner, to a wearer's spectacles frame or to the spectacles case.
