P A marked crystallographic texture is produced in an alpha or alpha-beta titanium alloy containing a dispersion of particles, by heating the alloy in the area consisting essentially solely of the beta phase and mechanically working the alloy hot in this domain. Mechanical work is preferably carried out by spinning, rolling or forging. The particles are stable during work and prevent random texture formation in recrystallized beta phase grains at the working temperature. The particles are preferably oxides formed from rare earth elements such as erbium or yttrium, which is introduced into the alloy during its manufacture. The alloys treated according to the invention are preferably prepared by powder metallurgy to obtain a uniform microstructure before working. An especially recommended alpha-beta (but close to alpha) titanium alloy contains aluminum, zirconium, hafnium, tin, niobium, molybdenum, tungsten, ruthenium, germanium, silicon , and erbium. / P P These alloys can be used in aircraft structures and engines. / P
