A description is given of a process and a device for steam cracking a hydrocarbon charge containing at least two carbon atoms. According to the invention, the charge is cracked in the presence of steam in a steam cracking region 1 containing at least one reaction tube 2. The steam cracking effluent produced and a plasma torch effluent 6, cooled beforehand to 1200-2000 DEG C, are brought into direct contact in a pyrolysis region 4 adjacent to the steam cracking region and the mixture thus produced is circulated (moved) under pyrolysis conditions such that a pyrolysis effluent is produced.
