Submerged antenna array for studying the signals emitted by a ship, and method of operating this installation

The installation comprises two barges (6) carrying submerged antennae (7,8). A ship (1) to be studied is immobilised on site. The barges (6) successively take up a series of intermediate positions between extreme positions (in dotted lines in the figure) so as to reproduce a relative movement of the ship (1) with respect to the antennae (7,8). Winches 10 acting on cables (11,12) are used to move the barges. In each position of the antennae, the signals received by sensors mounted on the antennae are transmitted to a signal acquisition and processing centre.
