WATER-SOLUBLE EXTRACT OF PITTOSPORACEAE, ITS APPLICATIONS AS A MEDICAMENT IN THE TREATMENT OF DIABETES AND HEPATIC DISEASES AND METHODS OF PREPARATION.

P This extract contains mainly vitamin B12, vitamin B2, saponin and tannin; it exhibits the following absorption characteristics in the infrared region of the spectrum: strong absorption bands at 1050 -1070 cm-1, 1620 cm-1, 2950 cm-1 and 3450 cm-1 and relatively high absorption bands at 520 cm -1, 780 cm -1, 1250 cm -1, 1320 cm -1, 1380-1440 cm -1 (doublet), 1735 cm -1 and 2850 cm -1. BR/ A process for preparing this extract comprises the following steps: separating a mixture of a dry Pittosporaceae powder and water in two layers: a solution layer and a precipitate layer; concentration of the solution layer under reduced pressure at temperatures not exceeding about 40 ° C to prepare a concentrated solution; and freeze-drying the concentrated solution to prepare the powder as needed. The invention also relates to medicinal compositions especially for the treatment of diabetes and liver diseases which consist essentially of the soluble extract above. / P
