A method and a reagent for the highly sensitive analysis of bile acids are described. The reagent comprises: BR/ (1) a steroid dehydrogenase which catalyzes the reversible oxidation of bile acids producing oxobiliary acids, wherein (a) NADP or NAD and (b) thio-NADP or thio-NAD must be used as coenzymes; BR/ (2) A1 (thio-NADP, thio-NAD, NADP or NAD) in an amount in excess of the amount of bile acids; and BR/ (3) B1 (NADP or NAD, reduced, when A1 is thio-NADP or thio-NAD, or thio-NADP or thio-NAD, reduced, when A1 is NADP or NAD) and / or B2 ( oxidized product of B1). BR/ A sample is processed by the reagent and the variation of the amount of A2 or B1 in the reaction is measured to quantitatively analyze the bile acids. / P
