The method comprises the following steps: (a) determination of a target profile (P) consisting of a series of discrete values of the received amplitudes corresponding to the successive recurrences of a given beam for the same small range of distance, (e) determination of the number of changes in the sign of the gradient of the amplitudes of this target profile.
