A method of modifying a double wishbone suspension having a lever arm shock absorber comprises removing the lever arm shock absorber and replacing it by an upper lever arm 51 so that its inner end is pivotably mounted on blocks 54 secured in place of the shock absorber on a cross member and that its outer end is pivotably mounted on the wheel carrier 25. A hole 58 is made in the cross member and a telescopic shock absorber 66 is located within the existing coil spring 39 so that the one end of the shock absorber is pivoted on a trunnion 68 on the lower arm 64 or an extension thereof and the other end of the shock absorber 66 is pivotable about the inner pivot axis of the upper arm 51, extending through hole 58.
