PURPOSE:To eliminate error data and enable stable continuous measurement by placing a purge gas nozzle close to a supersonic level gage, cleaning a supersonic wave transmitting/receiving surface with purge gas for a short time during the continuous measurement and maintaining a continuously measured value during cleaning at a measured value immediately before the cleaning. CONSTITUTION:A supersonic level gage 5 is placed on an upper part of a tank 3, a detecting unit 6 is exhibited in the tank, and a purge nozzle 7 for cleaning a transmitting/receiving surface of the detecting unit 6 is placed in the vicinity of the level gage 5. Supersonic waves emitted from the detecting unit 6 are reflected on the surfaces of stored powder and granular materials 1, converted into electric signals in the detecting unit 6 and sent to a level calculator 12. When an operation instruction is given to a purge controller 11, purge gas is blown against the surface of the detecting unit 6 and attached powder and granular materials 1 are removed. A noise cut signal is input to the level calculator 12, a level measured value is cut, and a measured value during the cleaning is maintained at the measured value immediately before the cleaning.
