PURPOSE:To continuously prevent the deposition of scale in a digester, etc., by adding a specific amount of an acrylic acid-itaconic acid copolymer (salt) to a digester of a kraft pulp production process. CONSTITUTION:Deposition of scale in a digester and peripheral pipings and apparatuses can be continuously prevented by adding an acrylic acid-itaconic acid copolymer (salt) [preferably a copolymer (salt) having a molecular weight of 500-20,000 and containing 10-90mol% of acrylic acid and 90-10mol% of itaconic acid] preferably to white liquor supplied to the digester and/or to circulating cooking liquor in an amount of 0.01-10ppm, based on 1ppm of calcium ion existing in the cooking liquor in the digester of a kraft pulp production process.
