ALARM TRANSFER METHOD AND TRANSFER SYSTEM IN ATM NETWORK

PURPOSE:To avoid production of lots of ATM cells and to eliminate the need for management of huge quantity of information in each node for alarm transfer with respect to the alarm transfer method and the transfer system in the ATM system network. CONSTITUTION:When a node 50 detects a network fault, a VPI of all virtual paths accommodated in a link 52 detecting the fault is read from a VPI management table 56. An ATM cell including the VPI and alarm information as to each of read VPI is formed and the ATM cell is sent to a switch circuit 58. Each VC termination section 54 fetches the cell when the VPI and the VCI in the ATM cell are coincident. Even when the VPI is coincident and the cell includes the alarm information, the ATM cell is fetched and the VC termination section 54 fetching the ATM cell including the alarm information recognizes it that a path represented by the VPI in the ATM cell has a fault.
