USE OF DERMATAN SULFATE FOR PREVENTING AND CURING SENESCENCE OF BRAIN AND FUNCTION- DEFICIENT CONDITION OF CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

PURPOSE: To obtain a pharmaceutical composition containing dermatan sulfate or the combination of the dermatan with heparin as an active ingredient and useful for preventing and treating the aging of brains and the insufficient function states of central nervous systems. CONSTITUTION: This pharmaceutical composition contains natural dermatan sulfate having an average mol.wt. of 20,000-40,000 dalton or low mol.wt. dermatan sulfate having an average mol.wt. of 3,000-20,000 dalton or the combination of the dermatan sulfate with 0.5-10wt.% of heparin as an active ingredient. The composition is useful for treating central nervous system hypofunctions related to the biochemical modulation of glycosaminoglycan sulfate due to toxic dependency caused by the excessive use of a drug and for treating the ageing of brains in the forms of childish and senile dementias which are the syndromes of insufficient metabolisms.
