PURPOSE:To create a new face of type of a different line width easily by converting the first character pattern signal by a character pattern stroke data to the second character pattern signal by increasing or decreasing the character line width in an operation circuit of line width regulation. CONSTITUTION:An original image 0 is input to a graphic input device 1 to generate a character pattern stroke data, and it is stored in the first memory device 2 as the first character pattern signal. Then, to the first character pattern stored in the device 2, a line width regulation value to move parallel to generate the second character pattern is input from a line width setting unit 4 to an operation circuit 3. The operation circuit 3 carriers out an operation depending on the input line width regulation value to create the second character pattern signal with a different character line width, and stores it in the second memory device 5. Consequently, a new face with the different character line width can be created from a character pattern easily.
