NUTRITIVE SOLUTION CULTURE OF SWERTIA JAPONICA AS MEDICINAL PLANT

PURPOSE:To obtain the title plant in a shortened culture period, stably and inexpensively by sowing a supporting material on a bed of nutritive solution culture with seed of Swertia japonica, screening the surface of the supporting material from light, germinating and growing under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:A supporting material such as rock wool is placed on a bed of nutritive solution on which a nutritive solution of water culture is dripped in a thin flow, seeds of Swertia japonica are sewn on the supporting material and the surface of the supporting material is covered with black granules such as coconut shell carbon. When foliage leaves become 6-10, the shoot apex part is treated with 75-200mug gibberellin and flower stalk is formed. Then, young seedlings are grown with a nutritive solution having 0.15-0.5 concentration of standard prescription of horticulture experimental station or a nutritive solution of HAIPONEX(R) mixed fertilizer diluted by 750-2,000 times under a condition of 15-32 deg.C temperature of the open air, 15-25 deg.C temperature of the nutritive solution and 1X106 to 4X106/J.m2.daily amount of solar radiation to give the objective plant.
