CASSETTE DISCRIMINATION DEVICE IN VIDEO TAPE RECORDER

PURPOSE:To calculate a residual quantity corresponding to a compact cassette by providing a means which applies a specific calculation based on a rotation period of a winding reel base of a video tape recorder and a predetermined tape drive speed and discriminates a cassette to be a compact cassette when the result of calculation exceeds a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:A measuring means 2 measures a rotation period Tt of a winding reel base of a video tape recorder and the calculation of VX(Ttn-Tt0)/(2piN) is executed based on a predetermined tape drive speed V, where Tt0 is a rotation period of a winding reel base at a point of time to be measured and Ttn is rotation period of a winding reel after N rotation from the point of time above. When the result of calculation exceeds a predetermined value, a discrimination means 4 discriminates the cassette to be a compact cassette. Thus, the residual quantity corresponding to a compact cassette is calculated.
