PURPOSE:To perform sine wave driving of a servo motor immediately after turn ON of power by employing an intermediate value corresponding to the intermediate position of each section as an initial starting count immediately after turn ON of power at the time of starting drive control. CONSTITUTION:A and B pulses are fed from an encoder to a multiply-by-four circuit 1 where they are converted into up and down signals which are then fed to a counter 3. Three sets of phase pulses are fed from the encoder to an edge detecting circuit 2 which detects phase pulse edges and outputs a clear signal for clearing the counter 3 or a load signal for loading a maximum or intermediate count. A signal switch COS performs switching so that the transition command data for the counter 3 based on the load signal takes an intermediate value immediately after turn ON of power and then takes the maximum value.
