PURPOSE: To recover valuable minerals while suppressing a floatation of silica or siliceous gangue by using hydroxyl-containing compounds such as ethanol- amine, lactic acid or the like as a recovering agent for forth floatation. CONSTITUTION: An effective amount of hydroxyl-containing compounds such as ethanol-amine, lactic acid, ethyleneglycol, sugur-alcohol or the like is used at the time of treating particulate mineral ore which contains silica or siliceous gangue and is in a form of an aqueous slurry by froth floatation under a condition that the minerals to be recovered float. As a result, the floatation of the silica or siliceous gangue is suppressed, it has a high selectivity, especially in froth floatation of sulfide mineral ore and oxide mineral ore. Valuable minerals are thus recovered effectively.
