PURPOSE: To decide the angle coefficient of a phase straight line, and also to obtain a non-linear refractive coefficient from the angle coefficient, cavity length and the wave length of an exciting signal by identifying the saturation and the mitigation area of a hysteresis loop where the phase of an optical signal electromagnetic field in a cavity resonator is the linear function of output power, storing the values of an output and an input related to the area and obtaining the phase of the area from the value of storage power. CONSTITUTION: An optical beam which is outputted from an acoustooptical device 6 and modulated in terms of sine wave from a semi-conductor laser 3 with an isolator 5 is divided by a beam splitter 8, a reflection beam decides input signal strength by an optical detector 15, an amplifier 16 and a memory oscilloscope 11 and a transmissive beam adds a material to be measured or the cavity resonating equipment itself 1 is irradiated with it. The strength of the transmissive beam from 1 is detected by the oscilloscope 11 by way of the optical detecting equipment 9 and that of the reflection wave from 1 is detected by the second oscilloscope 14 by way of the optical detecting equipment 12. Desired data is obtained by the combination of the measurement values.
