PURPOSE:To inhibit the change in capacity of a refrigerating machine between routine operation and cool down operation by fitting a resin-made spacer having a taper-shaped central hole which reduces its size at the tip side of a displacer and reducing the capacity of the displacer a the tip side in conformity with the reduction in the volume resultant from a temperature drop in the gas. CONSTITUTION:A resin-made spacer 9 having a taper-shaped central hole 10 is fitted into a cylindrical body 8 of a displacer 5. The central hole 10 of the spacer 9 reduces the volume of the displacer 5 at its tip side, which produces a capacity equivalent to a cubic volume which is reduced due to a drop in gas temperature during routine operation and hence eliminates wasteful capacity. Therefore, even when an expander 1 returns to routine operation from cool down, a drop in gas pressure amplitude is minimized, which makes it possible to maintain an equivalent stroke of the displacer 5 as called for during cool down and hence keep an increased capacity of a refrigerating machine during routine operation.
