PURPOSE:To provide the subject fiber having a conjugate part of a sea-island structure composed of a thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol as the sea component and a carboxylic acid-modified polyolefin, etc., as the island component on its surface and having respectively specified fineness of the island component after removal of the sea component, the other conjugate part and the whole fiber body. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol and a mixture of a carboxylic acid-modified polyolefin and an acrylic acid-modified polyolefin or a vinyl acetate- modified polyolefin are subjected to conjugate spinning so that the above-mentioned mixture may constitute the surface part, thus obtaining the objective sufficiently high strength fiber having a conjugate part 1 composed of a sea-island structure containing the thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol as the island component 2 and the carboxylic acid-modified polyolefin, etc., as the sea component 3 on its surface part, having =0.1 denier fineness of the island component after removal of the sea component using water, =0.5 denier fineness of the other conjugate part 4 and =1 denier fineness of the whole fiber body and capable of stable spinning.
