PURPOSE: To obtain a magnesia based mixture and castable having reduced hydration tendency by processing magnesia particles while using inorganic acid, organic acid and/or salts thereof. ;CONSTITUTION: The organic acid is selected out of oxalic acid, citric acid, formic acid, acetic acid and malic acid. The magnesia particles are treated in the solution of this organic acid, the inorganic acid and/or the salts thereof (e.g. ammonium phosphate) and the magnesia of reduced hydration tendency is provided. The dry mixture for preparing the castable based on this magnesia is provided. Further, the castable is prepared from this mixture and water.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
