STEEL MATERIAL COATED WITH NI-TI INTERMETALLIC COMPOUND

PURPOSE:To easily produce a steel material excellent in salt resistance in concrete by coating the steel material with a mixed layer of Ni-Ti intermetallic compound and metallic Ti. CONSTITUTION:A fine metal powder consisting of Ni powder, Ti powder, and inevitable impurity elements is formed into pasty state by means of an alcohol solution of organic hypolymer and is applied to the surface of a steel sheet, which is heated to = about 960 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. At this time it is desirable to regulate the percentage of Ti powder to about 25-85wt.%. By this method, the steel material coated with a mixed layer of Ni-Ti intermetallic compound and metallic Ti or metallic Ni or an Ni-Ti intermetallic compound, usable for reinforcing bars for saline concrete, marine structures, etc., and excellent in salt resistance can be obtained.
