PURPOSE:To correctly judge the operation state of a detecting device for hydrogen gas concentration by constructing a closed circuit only with a channel on the detection side with the channel on the detection side disrupting from a channel on the side in contact with bath water. CONSTITUTION:After inert gas is supplied and filled into a circulation channel by means of opening an electromagnetic valve 38 of an inert gas cylinder 40, the valve 38 is closed and a circulation pump 28 is brought into operation to circulate the inert gas in the channel. Therefore, the contact of dissolved hydrogen and molten metal 12 in a channel 26 on the side in contact with the bath water causes the dissolved hydrogen in the molten metal 12 to be diffused in the inert gas so that pressure is boosted upto a partial pressure equilibrium to the concentration of the dissolved hydrogen in the molten metal 12. As a result, the hydrogen concentration in the inert gas which reaches an equilibrium state is detected by a detector 30 for hydrogen gas concentration so that the hydrogen concentration in the molten metal 12 can be measured. In addition, a closed circuit can be constructed only with a channel 34 by disrupting the channel 34 on the detection side from the channel 26 by means of a four-way switching valve 42.
